Do I need pest control when moving out of a rental?
Yes, in most cases. Whether you own or rent, your home needs protection from the pest pressures associated with living in South East Queensland, and in most cases tenants are expected to pay for their own pest control.
On some occasions, your property manager or landlord may take ownership of the pest treatment instead. This can happen:
- In cases of real estate negligence
- Where pest pressures are higher due to concerns with the home build
- Where pest pressures are higher due to previous tenancies
Is flea treatment required at the end of a tenancy?
Yes. In South East Queensland, if you have had a pet in the home, a flea treatment is required at the end of a tenancy, even if that pet is no longer living there.
In some cases the real estate may request that a 3 month warranty be attached to the treatment.
When should end-of-lease pest control be done?
Your end-of-lease pest treatment should be completed after your home is empty and the bond clean and carpet clean have been completed. The best order is:
- Move out and empty the home
- Complete the bond clean and carpet clean
- Book the pest treatment last
At Pesthouse, we prefer to be the final vendor in the property to ensure the treatment is as effective as possible. In some cases, if the real estate is within 5 km, we'll even pick up and drop off the keys for you.
Do I need to be home for an end-of-lease pest treatment?
No, you do not need to be home. We simply need entry, which can be through:
- A lockbox
- Keys left at the property
- Someone letting us in
- A real estate key collection (within 5 km)
If you aren't present, we'll give you a call or send an invoice to get payment processed after the service is completed.
How long does an end-of-lease pest treatment take?
It doesn't take long, generally between 20 and 30 minutes.
Do I receive proof that the treatment was completed?
Yes. Once the service and payment have been completed, you receive your receipt. If requested, you will also receive a personalised certificate for your real estate.
