They won't just leave.
Here's what happens next.

Rodents don't leave on their own. They breed, settle in and cause damage the whole time they're there. Every week you wait is a week they're making themselves more at home.

🔥
Chewed wiring - a genuine fire risk
Rodents gnaw constantly - it's biological. Electrical wiring is one of their favourite targets. Chewed wiring in your roof void is one of the leading causes of house fires in Australia. Your insurer may not cover a fire caused by rodent damage if there's evidence of a known, untreated infestation.
🦠
Disease and bacteria spreading through your home
Rodents spread Salmonella, Leptospirosis and Hantavirus through droppings, urine and contaminated surfaces. They don't stay in the roof - they travel through walls, into kitchens, across benchtops and into pantries. Every surface they touch becomes a contamination risk.
💸
Structural damage that costs thousands to repair
Rats have teeth strong enough to chew through timber, plasterboard, PVC pipes and insulation. A small infestation left untreated becomes a large one - and large infestations mean significant structural damage. The repair bill almost always dwarfs the cost of getting it treated early.
🐭
They breed faster than you think
A female mouse can produce up to 60 offspring per year. Rats aren't far behind. What starts as one or two rodents can become a full infestation within weeks. Every day you wait, the problem compounds - and so does the cost and complexity of treatment.
💀
Dead rodents in your walls - the smell is unbearable
Rodents that die in wall cavities or roof voids decompose over days to weeks. The smell is one of the worst homeowners ever experience - and it's nearly impossible to remove without finding and removing the source. Professional treatment means rodents leave the property to die - not inside your walls.
The one thing every homeowner gets wrong
Waiting to see if it "settles down" is the most expensive decision you'll make.
Rodents don't settle down. They settle in. Every week without treatment is another week of breeding, chewing and contaminating. The sooner you act, the simpler and cheaper the solution. Call us today.

What actually happens
when we come to your home.

Most people have never had a pest controller for rodents before. Here's exactly what to expect - no surprises, no jargon.

01
We assess your home and find how they're getting in
We start with a thorough inspection of your roof void, subfloor, external walls, weep holes and vents - understanding where they're entering and where they're living is what makes treatment effective. We'll tell you exactly what we find, no upselling and no scare tactics. We'll also point out the entry points so you can seal them after treatment - stopping new rodents from moving in next time the weather turns and protecting your home and wallet long term.
02
We place professional bait stations - not hardware store traps
We use tamper-proof, lockable professional bait stations loaded with rodenticide that's been formulated to be far more attractive to rodents than anything you'll find at the hardware store. Placement is everything - we position stations based on rodent behaviour and movement patterns, along wall lines, in roof voids and at entry points, not just wherever is convenient.
03
Significantly reduces the chance of rodents dying in your walls
The rodenticide we use causes rodents to become thirsty and seek water, which makes it far less likely they'll die inside your home. We can't guarantee every rodent will leave the property - but professional treatment significantly reduces this risk compared to hardware store products, which don't have this effect at all. Less chance of decomposition smell is one of the most meaningful differences between doing it yourself and calling us.
04
We walk you through everything - and we're back within 7-14 days if you need us
Before we leave, we'll walk you through exactly what we found, what we placed and where, what to expect in the coming days, and which entry points to prioritise sealing. Rodents are smart - sometimes they're cautious around new objects introduced to their space, and occasionally a particularly clever one will avoid the stations entirely. If that's you, get in touch with us within 7-14 days of treatment and we'll come back, reassess and adjust our approach. Please don't wait beyond 14 days - the sooner we know, the sooner we can adapt.

Rat or mouse?
It changes how we treat.

Both are serious problems - but they behave differently, cause different types of damage and require a slightly different approach. Here's what you're dealing with.

🐀
Rats
Roof rat, Norway rat
  • Larger, heavier - louder scratching and movement
  • Stay hidden longer - you see evidence before you see them
  • Stronger teeth - chew through timber, pipes, wiring faster
  • Higher contamination risk from droppings and urine
  • Neophobic - suspicious of new objects in their environment
  • Require urgent treatment - damage escalates quickly
Key sign: Loud thumping or running sounds in the roof at night. Greasy smear marks along walls and pipes.
🐭
Mice
House mouse, field mouse
  • Much smaller - can enter through a gap the size of a 5c coin
  • Breed faster - up to 60 offspring per female per year
  • More likely to come into living areas - kitchens, pantries
  • Lighter scratching sounds, more frequent movement
  • Curious - more likely to investigate traps and bait
  • Infestation numbers grow faster if left untreated
Key sign: Small dark droppings near food areas, behind appliances, in pantry corners. Chewed food packaging.
Not sure which one you have? That's completely normal - both are largely nocturnal and you'll usually hear or find evidence before you see them. Call us and describe what you're hearing and where - we can usually give you a pretty good idea before we even arrive, and we'll confirm on inspection.

Think you might
have rodents?

Rodents are mostly active at night and stay hidden during the day. You'll usually find evidence before you see them. Here's what to look for.

👂
Scratching or scurrying sounds
In the roof, walls or subfloor - particularly at night when the house is quiet.
💩
Droppings
Small dark pellets near food areas, behind appliances, in cupboards or along walls.
🔧
Gnaw marks
On food packaging, timber, cables, pipes or the edges of walls and skirting boards.
👃
Unusual smell
A musky ammonia-like smell from urine, or a decomposition smell if a rodent has died in the walls.
🪺
Nesting material
Shredded paper, fabric, insulation or other soft material gathered in a hidden area.
🐾
Pets acting strangely
Cats and dogs often detect rodents before you do - unusual sniffing, scratching at walls or fixation on certain areas.

Hardware store traps
and bait almost never solve it.

We hear it constantly - "I've tried everything from the hardware store and they keep coming back." Here's why that happens.

🧠
Rats are genuinely smart
Rats are neophobic - they're suspicious of new objects in their environment and will avoid traps and bait stations for days or weeks after they're placed. Professional bait placement accounts for this behaviour. Hardware store placement rarely does.
💊
DIY bait isn't the same product
Consumer rodenticides are lower strength than professional products. They're also formulated differently - meaning rodents are less likely to take them, and more likely to die inside your home rather than leaving the property first. That's how the smell problem starts.
📍
Placement is everything
Putting a trap in the middle of the kitchen floor doesn't work. Rodents travel along walls and through established pathways. If bait isn't placed precisely where they're moving, they simply won't take it - and you'll think they've gone when they haven't.
🔍
You can't see the whole picture
The scratching you hear in one spot doesn't mean that's where they're living. Roof voids, wall cavities and subfloors require professional inspection to understand the full extent of activity. Treating what you can see misses most of the problem.
🚪
Entry points stay open
Even if you kill the current population, new rodents will enter through the same gaps. A professional treatment includes identifying and recommending the sealing of entry points - so the problem doesn't immediately come back.
📈
While you're trying, they're breeding
Every week spent on DIY attempts is another week of breeding. A partial solution that slows but doesn't stop the infestation just means the problem grows more slowly - it doesn't fix it. Professional treatment resolves it completely.

What you can do to make
your home less attractive to them.

Treatment solves the immediate problem. These steps help make sure they don't come back.

Seal gaps around doors, vents, weep holes and rooflines
Keep food in sealed containers - including pet food
Empty bins regularly and keep lids on
Reduce clutter in storage areas - fewer hiding spots
Trim vegetation and branches away from your roofline
Don't leave food scraps or crumbs overnight
Keep compost bins sealed and away from the house
Check under the house and in the subfloor regularly
Already done all of this and still hearing them? Entry point sealing and prevention steps are essential - but they don't remove an existing infestation. If you can still hear movement or find evidence, you need professional treatment first, then prevention. Call us and we'll get it sorted.

Everything you need
to know.

We treat in a way that is designed to protect your children and pets by using professional-grade, tamper-proof bait stations placed strategically throughout your home. These stations are specifically designed to be highly resistant to access - if a dog got hold of one, it would take significant commitment to break in. That said, we do ask that you play your part too: please advise children to stay away from the stations and not to put their hands near rodent entry points or in areas where stations are placed. Please also ensure stations are not moved from where we place them - relocating them to easily accessible areas defeats the purpose of strategic placement.

In the weeks following treatment, it's also important to check areas your pets frequent - both inside and outside - for any rodent carcasses. If a pet were to eat a deceased rodent, this could pose a risk. A quick visual check of areas your pets roam, particularly in the garden and under the house, is a sensible precaution during this period.
Most homeowners notice a significant reduction in activity within 5-10 days. Complete resolution typically takes 2-3 weeks depending on the size of the infestation. You may actually notice more activity in the first few days as rodents become more active around the bait - this is normal and a sign the treatment is working. If activity hasn't reduced after 2 weeks, call us and we'll reassess.
This is one of the most common concerns - and it's a valid one. The professional rodenticide we use causes rodents to become thirsty and seek water, which significantly increases the likelihood they'll leave the property before they die. While we can't guarantee every rodent will exit the building, professional treatment makes this far less likely than hardware store products - which don't have this effect at all. The risk of smell is meaningfully reduced, though not eliminated entirely. It's one of the most important reasons to use a professional rather than going DIY.
No. Rodent treatment involves placement of bait stations, not chemical spraying of living areas. You can remain at home throughout the treatment. We'll need access to the roof void and any areas where we're placing stations, but there's no need to vacate.
It depends on the circumstances. Generally, landlords are responsible for pest control at the start of a tenancy and for infestations that arise through no fault of the tenant. However, if the infestation was caused or worsened by tenant behaviour - poor food storage, clutter, failing to report it early - it can become the tenant's responsibility. Either way, reporting it early and getting it treated protects you. If the damage or infestation worsens due to neglect, it's much more likely to come back on you.
The most important step is sealing entry points - gaps around doors, weep holes, vents, roof penetrations and any gap wider than a pencil. We'll identify these during our inspection and advise on which to prioritise. Beyond that - sealed food storage, regular bin emptying, reducing outdoor clutter and trimming vegetation away from your roofline all help. And an annual pest inspection means any new activity is caught early, before it becomes an infestation.
