German Cockroaches
German cockroaches may be tiny, but they’re one of the most troublesome pests around. They breed rapidly—one female can produce over 30,000 offspring in just a year! These little guys are found almost exclusively indoors, thriving in warm, humid spaces like behind fridges, dishwashers, and microwaves. If you spot one, there are definitely hundreds more hiding out of sight, makes your skin crawl doesn’t it…don’t think about it too much, we’ll get it sorted.
German Cockroach Identification Checklist
Take a little peak at the next cockroach you see, if it meets 5 or more of this list, you’re almost certainly looking at a German cockroach:
Small body (1.1 – 1.6 cm / ½ inch)
Light brown/tan colour
Two dark parallel stripes behind the head
Found only indoors – kitchens, bathrooms, inside appliances
Found in warm, humid cracks & crevices
Rarely flies even though it has wings
Scurries when lights switch on
Often survives supermarket sprays
Why DIY Doesn’t Work
Unlike some larger outdoor cockroach species, German cockroaches are resistant to supermarket sprays and often avoid bait stations unless placed strategically. Their tiny size means they can hide in the smallest cracks, and their eggs are carried in a protective casing until just before hatching, making it harder to break their breeding cycle.
What will Pesthouse do differently?
Premium treatment is essential for German cockroach infestations, unfortunately your general solution is simply not enough (not even close). The treatment plan will be specific to your home and the level of infestation, however at a minimum, our proper treatment plan will include:
Detailed inspection to find nesting sites and breeding zones
Targeted gel baiting in high-activity areas
Residual sprays in cracks and crevices
Dusting in wall voids and electrical appliances
Follow-up visits to monitor and eliminate surviving colonies
For serious infestations, a multi-visit program is often required to interrupt the breeding cycle and ensure long-term control. In your premium pest control solution, the initial treatment and treatment plan as well as your first follow up treatment is included. If your infestation requires three or more visits, each visit will incur a call out fee of $110.
